Sales of Pets from 'Puppy' Mills
Recently our local shelter took in over 200 small dogs from a group of puppy mills that had operated at great profit for many years. The animals were in pretty bad condition, and the owner of the mills lived in a million dollar house. (several charges were pressed against her).
Buying from pet stores supports these people. Please encourage pet store owners to reconsider what they sell in their stores and consider the sources from which they get their animals. I know many will of course simply shrug their shoulders, but you can make a difference by urging your municipal governments to consider banning sales of dogs, cats and rabbits, etc. in pet stores. The animals you see in the stores may seem healthy, but there is much to be discovered behind the scenes.
These animals suffer in the mass breeding mills. They are forced to live in closed quarters, often wire cages with no flooring, lack of light, heat and proper vet care.
For further information visit prisonersofgreed.org and also many other sites on the web that are actively working toward preventing these businesses from operating.
